Den Haag – Tijdens de wapeninleveractie #DropIt zijn de afgelopen week in totaal 669 wapens ingeleverd bij de politiebureaus in de eenheid Den Haag. Het gaat niet alleen om steekwapens, zoals messen, zwaarden en kapmessen, die in de speciaal daarvoor bestemde containers zijn gedeponeerd. Ook verschillende slag- en stootwapens zoals tasers, pepperspray, boksbeugels, wapenstokken, hamers en bijlen werden ingeleverd. Daarnaast zijn tijdens de inleveractie 30 echte vuurwapens en verschillende nep-vuurwapens in beslag genomen
Tijdens de inleveractie #DropIt konden mensen zich ontdoen van wapens zonder dat zij daarvoor strafrechtelijk worden vervolgd. Met de inleveractie wil de politie zoveel mogelijk wapens van straat halen. Bovendien wil de politie een signaal afgeven aan met name jongeren dat het niet normaal is om met een wapen de straat op te gaan.
Behalve steek-, slag- en stootwapens konden ook vuurwapens en munitie worden ingeleverd. Hiervoor moest wel een afspraak worden gemaakt om deze wapens thuis op te laten halen door een politiefunctionaris in burgerkleding. Het inleveren van deze wapens kon dus niet anoniem in tegenstelling tot de andere wapens. Bij de wapens die thuis werden opgehaald ging het onder meer om (hand)vuurwapens, alarmpistolen, luchtdrukwapens en munitie. Onderzocht wordt of deze wapens betrokken zijn geweest bij een strafbaar feit. Er wordt niet vervolgd voor het bezit van het vuurwapen. Alle wapens zullen worden vernietigd.
Paul van Musscher, politiechef van de eenheid Den Haag: “De opbrengst van de wapeninleveractie is een fantastisch resultaat. Ieder wapen dat we van straat halen, verkleint de kans op een geweldsincident. En wij hopen dat we met deze actie en met de aandacht ervoor in de media en op social media ook hebben kunnen bijdragen aan meer bewustwording onder jongeren. Want uiteindelijk moeten jongeren gaan inzien dat het niet normaal is om met een wapen de straat op te gaan.”
