Den Haag – Een demonstratie op het Malieveld is zondagmiddag uitgelopen op ongeregeldheden.
De demonstratie tegen de coronamaatregelen van de overheid, onder de noemer ‘viruswaanzin’, was eerder deze week door waarnemend burgemeester Remkes van Den Haag verboden. Een kort geding dat tegen deze beslissing was ingediend, leidde niet tot een andere uitkomst.
Ondanks het verbod hebben zich zondag aan het einde van de ochtend duizenden mensen op het Malieveld verzameld. Dat verliep over het algemeen vreedzaam in tegen stelling tot wat de politie meld. Er werden onder andere toespraken gehouden.
Waarnemend burgemeester Remkes had de demonstranten rond 13:00 tot 13.30 uur toestemming gegeven om de demonstratie alsnog te houden, waarna men moest vertrekken. Rond 16.00 uur waren zij echter nog steeds niet weg.
Een grote groep “voetbalsupporters” is echter op een gegeven moment gaan lopen richting het Centraal Station, maar werd daar tegengehouden door de Mobiele Eenheid die daar de eerste klappen uit deelde. Hierdoor ontstond een confrontatie . De politie heeft enkele charges uitgevoerd. Daarbij werden ook politiepaarden en een waterwerper ingezet. Er zijn vijf personen aangehouden voor het gooien van stenen.
De ongeregeldheden verplaatsten zich daarna naar de omgeving van het Malieveld.
Nadat het enige tijd rustig was geweest, liep een groep voetbalsupporters naar het begin van de Utrechtsebaan. Daar werd met stenen gegooid. Rond 15.45 uur was de rust daar echter weergekeerd.
Omstreeks half vijf zijn de demonstranten die nog op het Malieveld waren, omsingeld door de Mobiele Eenheid. Daarna zijn de demonstranten aangehouden en een voor een naar klaarstaande touringcars geleid. Het gaat naar schatting om 100 tot 250 man.
De gemeente Den Haag kwam na de demonstratie met een persverklaring.
Update 22:30: Een aantal demonstranten zou nog in de bussen zitten, op het binnenterrein van het hoofdbureau van politie. Door het grote aantal aanhoudingen (ongeveer 400 !) duurt het een tijd voordat iedereen ‘aan de beurt’ is.
